How American husbands behave when 'ours' would cause a scandal

This is a real story from the life of my girlfriend, which I sincerely call Scarlett, so much like her character is like the heroine “Gone With the Wind”, under whatever circumstances, writes Natalia Nechukhaeva for Schools of Life.
So, my girlfriend at the age of fifty dollars, Tatiana-Scarlett, nevertheless realized her dream and married an American Oscar. She communicated with me first by e-mail, then via Skype.
In one of the letters, Tanya complained that she had bought a doll hat on e-bay for a ridiculous price. She was attracted by the style, the favorite red color and the price of the headdress, but she completely forgot to check the diameter and height of the cap, as a result the latter turned out to be in the collection of daughter dolls.
I guessed that such things could happen to my friend and I was not too impressed when I received a letter a few weeks later: “SOS! I accidentally bought at a Komatsu auction for 25 500! And Oscar didn't kill me! Only now we don’t know what to do with this room! Does your husband, as a builder, need it accidentally? ” I reacted rather calmly: “Komatsa is another cap? My husband definitely doesn’t need this. ”
Only during the next visit of Tanya with Oscar to Ukraine did I get the opportunity to listen to the full purchase history of the ill-fated Komatsu excavator.
Somehow Oscar needed to buy for the chief, or rather their small company, some small detail for a construction crane or some other nonsense, Tanya didn’t go deep into the details. The exhibition of construction equipment was huge, there was an auction in every corner.
Inquisitive Tanya was interested to see how all this happens in reality, but the lots themselves did not inspire her: pieces of iron and pieces of iron, nothing interesting for a woman. They had already purchased a sign to participate in the auction and were about to sit down in their sector, when an old acquaintance called out to their husband, and they seemed to be hooked, apparently for a long time. Oscar tucked Tanya into the hands of a plate with the number 49 and said that he would raise her when bargaining for “their” part, if the announced price does not exceed 800 bucks, he does not intend to buy this piece for a large amount.
Tanya rushed to the stand with lots and heard the words: “Two hundred, who is more? Two hundred and fifty, who is more? Three hundred, five hundred ... ". After five hundred of all applicants for a piece of iron, it was blown away like a wind, and Tanya stood with a plaque set up proudly, anticipating how she would boast to her husband that she had bought a piece of iron twice as cheap as the estimated price. "Sold for twenty-five thousand five hundred dollars lady 49."
The hammer knock sounded like a wake. Tanya turned gray, turned white and began to sink to the floor. How did she manage to buy IT for twenty-five and a half thousand dollars? After all, she clearly heard the "five hundred"?
Oscar from a distance saw how his wife had turned white and that she was about to collapse. “What's the matter with you, darling? Bought a Komatsu Excavator? Just twenty five thousand five hundred? Yes, this is a good price for a mini-excavator, but we DO NOT NEED it! ”.
It turns out that when Tanya flew into the auction room at full speed, their lot had not yet been announced, and the bidding went for the previous, not at all cheap excavator from the well-known Japanese company Komatsu, which produces various construction equipment. And the price started from twenty thousand, and then surcharges to the original price were announced. Thousands on the road were discarded, and the very “two hundred, two hundred fifty, three hundred, five hundred” that she heard remained.
As a result, they became owners of a valuable excavator, and it is clear that they didn’t buy a piece of iron the necessary Oscar.
The main thing is that Oscar didn’t kill Tanya, which “ours” would certainly have done, but on the contrary, he reassured, otpival with tea and ammonia and sentenced, as if reading a booklet: “Letting out excavators, loaders, dump trucks, graders, bulldozers and other types of equipment, the company Komatsu has been on the market for almost a hundred years and proceeds from the principles of applying innovative technical and technological solutions. This is not a bad mini-excavator, darling, very useful for any construction company, but the question is, where will we keep it? ”
As a result, it was decided to roll their home Subaru from the parking lot, and the place of a small car proudly took his Japanese countryman overall length of about ten meters. True, the spouses had to sweat to break it off, but the buyer was found for the Japanese. It turned out to be a resident far from the States, but close to Ukraine, Belarus. He was not even frightened by the huge shipping, that is, the delivery of cargo across the seas and oceans. So the family of the girlfriend suffered only moral damage.
In the family, finally, there would be peace and quiet, if not a financial issue. The husband earned enough to feed himself. Well, another wife. But he also needed to feed two girls: his own daughter, for whom he had paid alimony, and Tanina. There was enough money for the necessities, no excess. Tanya, who has been used to earning herself at home over the past year and relying on her own wallet, has suffered. But she wouldn’t have been if she hadn’t had the idea to unleash an American husband, as she had previously unwound the wheel from Toyota, received as a compensation from the first spouse. Maybe make a business by buying a sawmill, as did the heroine of "Gone With the Wind"?
Already knowing the character of his wife Tanya-Scarlett, the American husband surrendered, like the Ukrainian ex, and considered it a blessing to rent her a few square meters of a small office for a travel agency. But Americans did not need visas to Europe, they reserved hotels through a developing booking site, and many had their usual tour operators to buy air tickets. Tanya sat and mourned in an empty room without tea and friends and allowed her husband to cover up the shop, which he did with great pleasure.
Arriving with my husband in the summer home, to see my mother and breathe in the home air, Tanya called me to entertain her husband, who did not speak Russian at all, and herself, having bought a bunch of programming books, sat down at the computer. She was engaged not only in software, but, to my amazement, in a few days she learned how to disassemble and assemble hardware, that is, a computer, with her eyes closed.
By the end of the vacation, Tanya became “on you” with all the modern databases. And back in America, began to sell their brains right and left, the benefit was what to sell.
The moral of this article is not that the clever Ukrainian woman was an accelerator for her American spouse with two colleges in history, but the fact that decent husbands are found among Americans.
And even in conditions of force majeure in family life, they do not behave like Bluebeard.
