Danish psychologists from the University of Tilburg found that the two most important qualities in marriage are self-control (the ability to shut up in time) and the ability to forgive. What about the complacency that married couples often display? These experiences become stronger for about a year after the wedding, and then return to the previous level.
By the way, contrary to popular theory, over time, spouses do not acquire each other's traits at all. Perhaps this may seem so due to the fact that older couples are often photographed in similar clothes and similar moods. A study by the University of Michigan showed that initially people with similar characters tend to find each other for a first marriage, but later on there is no noticeable "exchange" of qualities.
