'I thought it was useful': a woman put fruit juice into her vein and barely survived

A Chinese woman almost lost her life after injecting herself with fruit juice - she sincerely believed it was good for her health. Doctors recorded lesions of the liver, kidneys, heart and lungs in a 51-year-old Chinese woman - she was placed in intensive care for five days.
In conversation with with the BBC One of the hospital staff said that the patient injected intravenously a solution of 20 fruit types. Shortly after the injection, the woman started itching and fever.
The incident occurred last month, but it became known only now.
February 22 woman placed in the intensive care unit. She was saved, she was soon transferred to the general inpatient unit, and then discharged.
The case is being vigorously discussed in Chinese social networks - in particular on the Weibo website. More than 11000 publications have been published under the hashtag #OldWomanPutsJuiceIntoVeins alone.
Many users write that this case is a good illustration of how people lack basic knowledge of medicine.
“It seems that the level of public awareness of medical issues remains too low,” wrote one user.
