Recently, Russian opposition journalist Jenny Kurpen wrote on her Facebook page that she had married a Danish inventor, the killer of Swedish correspondent Kim Wall, Peter Madsen. In April 2018, he was sentenced to life imprisonment. Obozrevatel figured out what prompted the Russian oppositionist to marry the killer, nicknamed the "dismemberment maniac."

Peter Madsen is a former Danish businessman and inventor. He built the world's largest private submarine, the Nautilus, 18 meters long and weighing 40 tons. On August 11, 2017, the Swedish journalist Kim Vall came to him for an interview, preparing material about the boat. Together they sailed on it to the Baltic Sea, from where Kim never returned. It is still not known exactly what happened on the Nautilus. As a result of the investigation, Madsen killed the woman and then dismembered her. He tried to pass off the murder as an accident, before drowning the boat. Police believe he deliberately sank the ship. Madsen himself was rescued on the high seas.
The remains of the slain Baal were found 11 days after her disappearance. On the journalist's body, stab wounds were found in the groin and chest area, which, according to experts, were inflicted at the time of death or immediately after it.
The inventor himself changed his testimony several times. At first he claimed that he had landed Vall and continued the journey alone, and when they began to find parts of her body, he stated that the journalist died on board the boat as a result of an accident, and he only threw the body overboard. Madsen still denies the murder of a journalist. According to his new version of what happened, she died during a joint exit to the sea from carbon monoxide poisoning inside the boat while he himself was on the surface.

Madsen is also suspected of committing sexual acts "under particularly aggravating circumstances", police said. He made sexual contact with the body of a journalist after her death. In April 2018, the court sentenced him to life in prison.
Despite this, according to Danish journalists, Madsen is very popular among women. Out of sympathy for him, one of the prison guards even had to resign. In October 2018, an interview with Madsen's fan was published in the media. A 48-year-old woman says she doesn't care what crime he committed: “There are enough people who punish him and he will get the punishment he needs. And I'm just selfish and greedy and take what I want. I want the good side of him. ” At the same time, the woman assured that Madsen was not sexually interested in her.
Who is Jenny Kurpen and how is she connected with Ukraine
Jenny is a journalist and political activist based in Moscow. She was born in 1980. She left Russia in 2012 due to a criminal prosecution in the Bolotnaya case - protests against the victory of Vladimir Putin in the presidential elections. After 9 months, together with her friend Alexey Devyatkin, she applied for political asylum in Ukraine, but was refused. The couple moved to Finland, which agreed to grant them political asylum in 2013.
Kurpen began to communicate with Madsen around 2018, which emerges from her interview with the Russian publication Knife. She says that the punishment imposed by the court cannot and should not exclude a person from all other spheres of public life.
“The society puts pressure on women who communicate with the person in prison and support him. However, this pressure is just another attempt by society to deprive women of the right to control their thoughts, social circle, body, ”she said.
The couple officially married on December 19, 2019. The journalist confirmed this event a few weeks later on January 12.
“I love and respect my husband, I am proud of him and the 49 years of his human and professional life, except for one day, which was and will always remain tragic. The fact that I know his real person gives me the right to say that I was lucky to be with the most beautiful, intelligent, talented, goal-oriented and compassionate person of all. My husband is one of the victims of his own crime, and the fact that he survived is in itself a punishment for him, not a reward or luck. So I deeply regret to admit that the society that exists outside the prison walls is far more violent and potentially dangerous to itself than the hero of our humble discussion, ”she wrote on her Facebook page on January 12.
That post received 765 likes and about 2 thousand angry comments in the style of "you are crazy, I wish you to be the next victim." Many of Jenny's Russian colleagues call her love story with a killer-inventor “living hell,” while removing her from friends on social networks. Others question its adequacy.
“This is not the only story when women marry maniacs of all kinds, including those with numerous murders on their account. But this is what people who call themselves human rights defenders do - this is a much more dangerous story. After this, you need to stop doing human rights activities and go into private life. In Jenny's case, she only incites the conflict, and does not contribute to its appeasement, ”- said Olga Kurnosova, a political analyst from Russia.
According to her, recently some terrifying stories have been taking place in the Russian opposition environment and gives an example of the opposition, who also killed and dismembered his wife. There are also suicidal stories. But from the point of view of psychology, people with an unstable psyche can fall into the opposition movement, since they cannot be realized in other places.

“But when the number of such stories starts to go off scale, you watch with utter horror. I understand that love stories do not happen anywhere. It was that the Russian woman married a serial maniac from Ukraine (meaning the Pologov maniac Sergei Tkach - ed.), Who killed a wild number of people. Probably, there is some slight mental disorder in this. People love celebrities and not only positive ones, but negative ones too. Psychiatrists say that it is not paradoxical, but maniacs have, among other things, some kind of sexual attractiveness for a certain type of women, ”says Olga.
“This Jenny is actually very strange. I think this is psychiatry, ”- summed up the love story with Maden Obozrevatel Finnish writer Dmitry Zapolsky.
Kurpin herself does not comment on relations with Maden anymore. A wedding post with him has been removed from her Facebook page. It is known that from a previous relationship she has two sons.
