59-year-old Stephen Pirus, a resident of Madison, Wisconsin, appeared in court after he committed the murder of his wife and attempts to hide the traces of the crime with an explosion in his own house, writes Time.
The man committed the crime in August. As it turned out during the investigation, he had big plans - Pirus had a long time correspondence with a Russian resident named Olga, who was going to be transported to the USA and live with her happily ever after. Olga and Stephen met two years ago when the girl came to Wisconsin, but she couldn’t come back, she didn’t receive a visa. The investigation claims that, according to the correspondence, Stephen planned to marry a Russian woman.
Whether in a fit of anger in response to the situation, or wanting to still get his way and reunite with the Russian, Pirus decided to remove the barrier in the form of his wife. He shot his wife and opened a gas valve in the basement, causing the house to explode.
The offender wanted to put the incident as an accident, but investigators determined that the woman was killed. During the interrogation, Pyrus said that the wife herself asked to shoot her, because she suffered from depression.
