American doctors have recognized obesity contagious

After conducting research with the participation of families of military personnel who had been living at US naval bases for a long time, specialists from the University of Southern California came to the conclusion that overweight can be compared to an infectious disease.
Where does this unexpected statement come from? According to Los Angeles Times, the experts studied the state of health, weights and the influence of the social environment on the children of US Navy personnel. The project was conducted as part of the M-TEENS study on adolescent health in America.
It turned out that the likelihood of overweight in more than a thousand children increased if adults with higher rates of obesity lived with them at the military base. Data varied from district to district - for example, in El Paso, Colorado, the percentage of obese adolescents was 21%, and in Vernon, Louisiana, 38%. Doctors came to the conclusion that overweight is distributed on the principle of infection in closed communities.
One of the potential reasons, experts also called access to certain fast food restaurants near the bases. But nevertheless, doctors consider the main reason for the relationship between people to influence the formation of abnormal habits (including food) in the younger generation.
