The tiny bride and groom have been living in a white bucket in the attic of Betty and Jim Kasdorf's house in Wauwatoza, Wisconsin for 78 years and have been the jewel in 8 weddings. This porcelain couple is patiently waiting for someone else in the family to fall in love and decide to get married. This means that they will be able to decorate a wedding cake.
Figures first appeared on the October 13 wedding cake of the year 1940, when Frank and Catherine Wick exchanged vows of love and loyalty, tells USA Today. At the top of the cake, a miniature bride and groom were set on a small pedestal under a cover of ribbons and silk flowers, and a bell was set above their heads.
This happened 25 years before the decoration would be used again, this time for Betty and Jim 24's wedding on April 1965. Betty, the eldest daughter of Frank and Catherine, did not know that her mother had been keeping the top for all these years, but she jumped with delight when she heard the idea to re-decorate the cake with it.
Then, after another 14 years in a protective plastic case, the top again saw the light at the wedding of brother Betty Tim Wick and his bride Lori 30 June 1979 of the year. Sister Mary used it in 1982.
From them, the tradition passed into the next generation. Two children, Dan and Katie, used tops for cakes at their 2001 and 2005 weddings, respectively.
After a break, the decoration was installed at the wedding ceremonies of Tim and Lori's daughters - Caitlin on August 19 last year and Christine on January 27, 2018.
If you count, then these are eight weddings over 78 years. Names and dates are written on the cover of the jewelery case.
Frank and Catherine are no longer alive, but Catherine lived to 100 years. Cherished figures are kept in the family archive and wait for love to descend again.
