A designer from the USA with an unusual perception of the world showed how she sees the names. A woman’s brain associates letters with a certain color, so each name and surname has its own unique palette, writes Medialeaks.
You can see it using the American site, and while many Twitter users were enthusiastic about the project, people with similar synesthesia were upset, because their vision of the words turned out to be different.
Synaesthesia is a special perception in which irritation of one human sensory organ leads to an involuntary response of another sensory system. Sinestest, that is, people who are able to experience such an experience, can feel the taste of sounds, perceive melodies tactfully, and letters and numbers - as colors or figures. The last form of synesthesia, which is called grapheme-color, is one of the most common, and that is exactly what designer Bernadette Sheridan from the USA has.
In her article on the Medium portal, the woman said that she perceives the world this way all her conscious life, and her synesthesia is especially often manifested when an American hears a name.

“When I meet new people, I immediately forget the person’s name. Do not get me wrong, I hear the name, but my brain is distracted. In my head, I count the number of letters in the name and imagine the color of each of them, ”Sheridan shared.
Bernadette explained how this process happens, using an example of a meeting with an imaginary girl Emily. The woman perceives this name as “a bright, sunny row of five letters with E and I”.
Sheridan has long been difficult to describe to others around her synesthesia. The solution was a site created by Bernadette Synesthesia.meshowing the color of the names (and in principle any words) according to her personal perception.
To find out your palette, just type your first or last name in the field - only in English. The portal picks a color for each letter and instantly shows the result.
Users of the site may have a question regarding the difference between spelling and pronunciation of the name, because if you drive both variations into the field, the palettes will be different. But Bernadette is sure that in most cases the discrepancies are minimal.

The portal, apparently, Sheridan launched back in late December, when her article about the site came out. But the site began to gain popularity only a month and a half later, in mid-February, when the curious inhabitants of Twitter began to test it massively.
