From nuclear physicist to Miss USA: Las Vegas winner announced beauty contest

Last night in Las Vegas 51 challenger fought for the title of Miss USA-2017. The contestants included lawyers, businessmen, fighters for women's rights, and even one newly graduated college graduate who missed the graduation ceremony to fight for the Miss USA crown.
Kara McCullough, a 25-year-old chemist working in the US Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Miss. District of Columbia, won the main prize. Second place and the title of First Vice-Miss USA-2017 received Chavi Verg from New Jersey, and Vice-Miss became Miss Minnesota Meredith Gould, respectively, taking third place.
In the final round, the participants were asked a tricky question about the concept of feminism, to which Kara replied: “Being a woman-scientist under the government, I would like to replace the word feminism with equality. I witnessed the influence that women executives have in medicine, science, and in the office environment. As Miss USA, I would like to promote this leadership responsibility among women all over the world. ”
McCullough, 65-I crowned Miss USA, graduated from the University of South Carolina and received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry with an in-depth study of radiochemistry.
After the award, Kara addressed the public: “I am grateful for this opportunity. I want to encourage as many women in the country as possible to find their dream, passion in some sphere and understand that there is nothing difficult if you really did something to achieve the goal. ”
This is the second year when a representative from the capital received the crown and title of Miss USA. Last year, the contestant from the same District of Columbia, Deshawn Barber, became the first female soldier in history to win the Miss USA competition.
