On the repair of houses and apartments in America

A post based on questions from surprised readers: "Do Americans make repairs themselves?" Well, of course! They are also people!
All Americans I know here were born and raised in detached houses. Every single one! All of them are suburban, I don't know anyone from the city. Their parents did everything around the house (sometimes they even built a house themselves, with the help of friends and neighbors) and taught their children the same way.
- If an American grows his hands at least from about the right place on his body, and there is no extra money (and in the US all services related to repair and construction cost just “how much to lose money”), he will do everything he can. Or with a friend!
- Tear off the carpet and learn to lay tiles? Right now, just look on the Internet and do it!
- Install a kitchen? I'll just call a friend - and we'll do everything in the best possible way with beer!
- Paint the walls? Well this is my favorite occupation since childhood!
- Remove old toilet? and install a new one? Pfff... It would have been more difficult to ask!
- Plumbing? Yes, one-two-three - and you're done!
- Lawn mow? Well this is a favorite activity on a Saturday morning! (not really "repair", but also in the subject).
- And only if an American understands that he cannot be mastered or that only certified specialists can do it, he invites help.
- Help costs hundreds and thousands of dollars, so it is important not to make a mistake with the choice, because even for that kind of money you can get screwed up. If it is possible to fix the "jamb", they will fix it for free, but if not - well, somehow it did not work out that way.
Here is the video of our neighbors Michael and Karen did this pond themselves. There live fish (it seems, rainbow carp), but they are shy and always hide when I walk up. Because otherwise they are eaten by birds.
