September 29 was supposed to be the happiest day in Jessica Padgett's life. She was supposed to marry her fiance Kendall Murphy.
But her hopes and dreams of spending her whole life with Kendall collapsed 10 November 2017 of the year. A Montgomery fire volunteer died under the wheels of a car that was driven by a drunk driver.
Kendall’s death shocked many of the members of the community who remembered him as an incredibly kind person.
Katrina Murphy, Kendall's mother, approached the photographer Mandi Kneppa after his death and asked if he could photograph Jessica on the day they planned to marry. She thought it was a good way to honor Kendall and help Jessica in the healing process. Mundy agreed and did everything to help.
Mandi photographed Jessica while she put on a dress and did makeup. She posed with several of Kendall's things, including his uniform, helmet, and boots.
Her best friend asked people to write letters of support, and she got enough to read one a day for the next six months.
Kendall was one of five Indiana firefighters who were honored with the National Fire Service Memorial of the dead on Sunday in Washington, DC.
The Montgomery Fire Station and St. Peter’s Catholic Church helped “draw a red city” in honor of Kendall.
