Several years ago, the Duchess of Sussex filed a lawsuit against Mail on Sunday and the Associated Newspapers for publishing her personal letter to Father Thomas Markle.
Meghan Markle fell out with her dad after the wedding with Prince Harry, which Thomas did not attend, citing poor health. Shortly before that, he got into a scandal because of the paparazzi, and after his daughter became part of the royal family, he began to actively cooperate with the press. Markle recently explained why he released a personal message from Meghan.
The Duchess went to court to prove her privacy intrusion and won the case. Judge Mark Warby ruled that Megan "had reasonable grounds to believe that the contents of the letter would remain confidential."
The British tabloid insisted that the ex-actress's friends themselves told People magazine about her correspondence with her father, so the release of the message was necessary to restore the truth. The court considered that the disclosure of personal information “was not a proportionate means to an end”.
