The operation was carried out in one of the clinics in Los Angeles, and it was successful. But after 10 days, Elton John noticed that something was wrong. He just arrived in Las Vegas for a concert. Every day the condition of the musician worsened.
“It turned out I had a rare complication after the operation,” the singer said.

Initially, the doctors managed to help him, but after some time the condition of the musician worsened.
As a result, he had to interrupt his tour of South America and return to London. Elton John calls his condition “the worst of his life” at that time. But the condition of the musician was so serious that the medical facility did not have the necessary equipment to help him.
As a result, Elton John was taken to a London clinic. For two days he was in intensive care.
As it turned out, in South America he contracted a serious viral infection. The singer was treated with large intravenous doses of antibiotics.
Doctors said that Elton John was “at 24 hours from death” due to infection. If his tour lasted another day, he could not be saved.

“At night in the hospital alone with death, I prayed: please, do not let me die, let me see my children again, give me some more time. The musician said that what had happened helped him decide not to tour for the sake of his family: he realized that his family was more valuable.
