An intertribal seminole scandal broke out in Miami-Dade, Fla. The police, right from the hospital, took Ingrid Ronan Johnson’s daughter, Rebecca Sanders, two days after the birth from his mother, writes NBC.
Justin Johnson’s father and mother Rebecca Sanders reported that they filed complaints with various departments, including the Miami-Dade Police and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
Sanders said inter-tribal detectives, along with hospital security officers, entered her room shortly after the doctor picked up the girl.
“He said that an application was submitted, according to which I lost custody of my daughter. He said that he did not have a warrant, but he was ordered to take the girl, ”says Sanders.
The application to select the girl, filed the mother of a woman Betty Oscheola. She filed it in tribal court, claiming that she did not want Johnson to participate in the child’s life, since he was not an Indian. The grandmother managed to get the court custody of her granddaughter.
The woman claimed that Johnson abused pregnant Sanders. The couple denies the allegations.
The Seminole tribe has 600 members who are not subject to the jurisdiction of the state of Florida. If a child lives with a grandmother on land belonging to a tribe, then only the federal government can take part in the case and return the child to the mother.
Senator Marco Rubio wrote in Twitterthat this incident is the abduction of a child and “it will not end well” for the tribe if they do not return the child to their parents.
