WHO spokesman made a statement on the operation of schools during the COVID-19 pandemic, reports Columnist.
The organization is convinced that closing schools due to the coronavirus pandemic is necessary only as a last resort, since millions of children around the world have not attended school for months.
This was announced on September 15 by the head of the World Health Organization Tedros Adan Ghebreyesus at a briefing in Geneva.
“The decision to close schools should be a last resort - temporary and taken at the local level in areas with intense transmission of coronavirus,” said the head of the WHO.
Gebreisus noted that schoolchildren should not interrupt the educational process, and this can be achieved through online learning. And the period when schools remain closed should be used to take all measures that will prevent the spread of infection after the return of students to their desks.

UNICEF Executive Director Henrietta Fore said more than 460 million children were unable to access online education when schools were closed.
“This is a global education emergency. 24 million children are projected to drop out of school due to COVID-19, so we urge governments to pay attention to reopening schools once restrictions are lifted, ”Fore said.
