In Wisconsin, in the city of Madison, the UnityPoint Health-Meriter hospital removed a nurse from her duties because during her 5 shift, newborns were seriously injured, such as a broken skull, broken rib or arms, writes New York Post.
The identity of the nurse is not disclosed. It is reported that two babies with bruises were found last month. An internal investigation found out that there were two more similar incidents last year and one in January.
Employees of the hospital 2 February found bruises on the hand of a newborn. The doctor thought that it could be from medical equipment tubes. But the next day, similar bruises were found on the arm and wrist of another child.
4 February staff again found the child, who had bruises on his face, and three days later they saw a seal on the child’s head. The KT scan showed that the child had fractures of the skull and hands. The nurse was suspended.
Hospital spokeswoman Jessica Kasster said Meriter was cooperating with the authorities and introduced new security measures.
The hospital reported that they set up a guard in the department with newborns, and also installed cameras in all wards. Now one nurse will take care of two newborns at the same time, and not three as she was before.
Police are still investigating.
