12 December a couple from Texas gave birth to a baby with an unexpected weight in 14 pounds and 13 ounces (6 718 grams).
The toddler's parents - Jennifer and Eric Medlock - were told that their newborn son Ali is the heaviest child ever born at Arlington Memorial Hospital in Texas. USA Today.
According to Jennifer Medlock, the doctor who delivered the baby also said that the newborn is the biggest child he has ever helped to be born in his more than 30-year-old career.
Jennifer Medlock said she expected Ali to weigh about 10 pounds (4 500 grams) because her 2-year-old daughter weighed about the same at birth. But she was shocked when doctors told her the weight of her newborn son.
“We weren't expecting £ 14,” she said.
Ali was born with a previously planned caesarean section, because Medlock performed a caesarean section at birth of her daughter and she could not give birth on her own.
The child was placed in the neonatal intensive care unit due to low blood sugar and platelets, which was due to its large size. But the baby quickly became better, and he was discharged from the hospital 19 December.
