The man was detained on charges of killing 22-year-old Melinda Vasily. Her body with knife wounds was found in her own apartment in Kitchener, Canada, 28 April. A few days later, on May 1, Hassan wrote on Redditthat stabbed the ex-lover in self-defense, that it was she who came to him with a knife. Then this post has been deleted.

As it turned out, the man told the girl about relationships with other women. The conversation turned into a quarrel, and he stabbed the victim with a knife, and then fled.
During the time that the Canadian was on the run, he made several publications in Instagram with photos of a friend, the signatures of which consisted of the young man’s thoughts about the mistakes made in their relationship. One of the latest posts is devoted to denying rumors that he is fleeing persecution to Mexico.
In the latest publication, he wrote that he was "returning home."
However, the Canadian authorities have no confirmation that this account is Instagram really belongs to Hassan, and it was he who wrote it.
Hassan is charged with second-degree murder. He will appear before the court of the city of San Antonio, after which he is extradited to Canada.
