In the United States, a girl who drowned 55 years ago was identified using a DNA test. She turned out to be 17-year-old Jolene Hemmi, writes Tjournal.
The girl drowned in the pool of a motel in Pecos, Texas. This happened in July 1966. The deceased moved into a motel with an unknown man, and a little later a maid found her. The girl was taken to the hospital, but she died.
While she was being taken out of the water, the man took the documents and left the motel.
In 2020, police reopened their pending investigation and exhumed the body.
They took DNA samples, used genealogy, and found some snapshots from the original case. The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children has turned to genetic research firm Innovative Forensic for help.

Last week, the news was reported to the family of the deceased. Brother Hemmi said that their parents hoped to the last that she was alive.
“For more than fifty years we have all been wondering what exactly happened,” said Paul Hemmi.
