In Arizona, a court sentenced a mother who left her daughter to die in the desert

An Arizona resident who left her 17 month-old daughter to die in the desert and then buried her was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
Earlier 23-year-old Ashley Attson from Chinle pleaded guilty to second-degree murder, reports USA Today.
She was sentenced by District Judge David Campbell.
Attson admitted that she had left her child in a wagon in the desert for four days and nights (on the Navajo reservation, Apache district). It happened in September last year.
“For the next few days, she met up with friends to eat ice cream and posted photos on Facebook- said in a statement from the US Attorney's Office in Arizona. "When she returned, the baby was dead."
Two days later, Attson wrapped the baby’s body in a garbage bag and buried it in an animal pit.
Prosecutors say that Attson’s daughter was born with methamphetamine in the body and was under the care of social services for most of her short life.
Attson was given custody of her daughter just two months before the girl’s death.
Announcing the verdict, Campbell said that Attson had committed "the deliberate, cold-blooded, monstrous murder of an innocent child."
Attson will spend years in prison 20, followed by release under supervision for five years, the documents indicated.
