Organization Moms across america made a statement: according to official data, positive tests for the dangerous pesticide glyphosate were detected in the orange juices of five leading American brands.
The average American drinks 2,7 gallons (over 10 liters) of orange juice every year and eats 3 pounds (1,36 kg) of oranges. The “100% Orange Juice” label is nothing more than an advertising stunt used by juice brands to make customers feel safe buying such products.
Glyphosate is a claimed active chemical, part of the fertilizer used in the USA, which is often sprayed with citrus trees, also it settles in water for irrigation and rainwater. Positive results in juices ranged from 4,33 parts per billion (ppb) to alarming 26,05 ppb. Studies have shown that only 0,1 ppb glyphosate destroys beneficial intestinal bacteria, weakening the immune system, and the entire 1 part per trillion (ppt) stimulates the growth of breast cancer cells. 1 ppt is equivalent to a drop of water in comparison with 1 Olympic pools.
A comment from the American Academy of Pediatrics confirms that children who regularly receive orange juice for breakfast are particularly sensitive to pesticides, so appropriate research should be carried out with all brands as soon as possible.
Moms of America are calling on the authorities to withdraw licenses for the use of glyphosate, and farmers to call for the use of organic, healthier fertilizers.
