For more than ten years, a British teenager ate only chips, sausages and bread, and it ended very badly. For many years, the boy looked completely healthy and did not even get fat. And by the 19 years, a dangerous eating disorder had done irreversible damage to his eyesight and hearing. Problems with eating behavior in a teenager from Bristol began when he was seven years old, writes Independent. Parents gave him sandwiches and fresh fruits with him to school, but the boy brought them home intact. And he agreed to eat only chips, sausages, ham and white bread, writes Medialeaks.
Relatives and teachers were worried, but they could not somehow influence the child. Moreover, outwardly, he was completely healthy and not even getting fat, his mother said.
“He was always skinny, so we didn't worry about his weight. They always talk about junk food in connection with obesity, but he was thin as a pole, ”the woman admitted.

Many years later, it became clear that the boy suffered from Selective Nutrition Disorder (ARFID). People suffering from it avoid food with a certain color, smell, taste, texture, size or any other sign that is important in their understanding. Often this is combined with psychological problems - anxiety disorders and obsessive-compulsive syndrome.
Despite the fact that the child received enough calories, the growing body was sorely lacking in nutrients. As a result, from 14 years, he began to have problems with vision and hearing. Due to a lack of nutrition, his optic nerve was damaged and by the age of 19, the young man was almost completely blind.
“We were told that the damage to his health is irreversible. This is a real nightmare. He has no social life. After graduating from high school, he entered college for IT courses, but was forced to quit because he had not seen or heard anything, ”the relatives say.

Optical neuropathy, which was diagnosed in a boy, first leads to a loss of color vision. But if you run it, it can end in complete blindness, explained the doctor who observed the patient in the Bristol Eye Hospital.
“Now he can only read the top line on the eye test chart. He has a blind spot in the center of each eye. He retained peripheral vision, so he can still navigate in space. But his optic nerve has suffered irreversible damage, and he will no longer be able to recover on its own, ”says the doctor.
At the same time, even now, the young man continues to eat in the same mode, although his diet has been diversified with vitamins and nutritional supplements.
