People's Artist of the USSR was 87 years old. In early January, he was hospitalized with coronavirus, reports RBC.
Actor Vasily Lanovoy died at the age of 87, his wife Irina Kupchenko told TASS.
“Vasily Semyonovich has passed away,” she said.
On January 2, it became known that Lanovoy and Kupchenko had contracted the coronavirus. They did not have severe symptoms, but despite this, Lanovoy was still admitted to the hospital. Even Lanovoy's last birthday fell on the time of his "hospital confinement": on January 16, the actor turned 87 years old.
On the afternoon of January 28, Lanovoy was transferred to intensive care, as his condition worsened. Later, an acquaintance of the People's Artist of the USSR, Yevgeny Gerasimov, said that Lanovoy suffered clinical death.
Vasily Lanovoy was born on January 16, 1934 in Moscow. In 1953 he entered the Faculty of Journalism of Moscow State University, later - at the B. Shchukin Theater School (now the Boris Shchukin Theater Institute), which he graduated in 1957. While still a student, he starred in his first film "Certificate of Maturity", and in 1956 he played the main role in the film "Pavel Korchagin".

Among the most famous films of the actor are the roles of Arthur Gray in "Scarlet Sails", Ivan Baravva in "Officers" and Vladislav Kostenko in "Petrovka 38". He is also known for the films "War and Peace", "Anna Karenina", "Anna and the Commander", "Days of the Turbins", "Striped Flight", etc.
In 1985 Lanovoy received the title of People's Artist of the USSR.
