Teacher from Miami was fired because of marrying a woman

Parents of the Miami Catholic School are demanding justice after their children’s favorite teacher was fired a few days after her marriage to her friend.
First-grade teacher Jocelyn Morffy lost her job at the Catholic School of Saints Peter and Paul after returning from her own wedding. Miami Herald.
“This weekend I got married to the love of my life and as a result I got fired from my job,” Morffy wrote on social media. "In their eyes, I am not a suitable Catholic because of this choice of partner."
Parents of schoolchildren learned about the dismissal from a letter they received on Thursday evening, and the very next day around 20 their parents arrived at the school asking for explanations.
“They treated her like a criminal, didn’t even let her take her things from the class,” the mother of one of the students is indignant.
According to the parents, they did not know about the teacher's sexual orientation, but they did not care, since Morffi was one of the best teachers in the school and showed excellent results in her work. The director replied that Morffy had indeed been fired, but did not elaborate, saying only that she had "violated the contract."
Mary Ross Agosta, a Miami archdiocese representative, said that every company has its own policies and rules that require compliance. And in this case, the decision was justified, since the school belongs to the Catholic Church, which does not approve of same-sex marriage.
“It's shocking that all of this is going on in South Florida these days,” says Tony Lima, director of the state's LGBT rights group.
Florida has no state laws prohibiting discrimination based on sexual orientation. Parents of the school students said they would continue to protest against the administration's decision. One of the mothers even said that she wants to take her child out of school, where “in 2018 people are still being fired because of their orientation.”
