Triplets from New York separated for the sake of cruel experiment

This story sounds like the plot of a science fiction novel, but, unfortunately, it happened in real life, in New York. Psychiatrist Peter Neubauer separated three identical brothers for the sake of a cruel experiment, writes New York Post.
The purpose of the experiment, which was conceived in 1960's, was to determine which factors most strongly affect people - genetics or the environment. For the sake of research, Neubauer decided to destroy the fate of living people: all the children were sent to different families.
19 years passed before the brothers Robert Robert Saffron, David Kellman and Eddie Galland could meet. Until then, none of them had suspected the existence of two other twins.
They found each other by a miracle: the New York students told Robert about a very similar young man named Eddie. Having met, the guys found out that they were born on the same day, besides, they had the same moles and even the IQ level.
Later, another student named David saw their photo in the newspaper: both were like two peas in a pod like him. So the brothers met.
Later it turned out that the habits of all three were similar - both the interest in girls of a certain type and the taste preferences in food and even the brand of their favorite cigarettes. It also turned out that there was a fourth child, but he died at birth.
When the brothers appealed to the adoption agency, it turned out that they were sent to certain families not by chance - each of them already had a two-year-old daughter.
Gradually, the tangle of facts unwound and reached the psychoanalyst Neubauer, the head of the New York Child Development Center. It became known that all this time Neubauer watched the lives of boys, and then young people, conducting a secret investigation.
The cruel experiment was funded by the US National Institutes of Health.
The adoption agency has also been formally involved in this process.
Monthly, families brought their separated children to independent meetings with a psychiatrist for 12 for many years. All the important moments of their lives were recorded on video. The children were turned into experimental rabbits, as their adoptive parents knew, but the children themselves did not guess. Robert was deliberately sent to the richer family, Eddie to the middle class, and David to the worker, to the family with the most modest wealth and living conditions.
David felt that he had blood relatives. As his adoptive mother recalls, from an early age he said: “I have a brother”. When the three reunited, it turned out that each of them felt something similar and was worried about the separation, but could not explain it to himself.
At first, everything was quite successful: the brothers opened a common restaurant, constantly published in newspapers, starred in documentaries and broadcasts and received good money for it.
Unfortunately, in less than a year, the brothers began to quarrel over responsibilities in business. Robert abandoned successful law practice, and Eddie, in severe depression, committed suicide in 33.
What is Dr. Neubauer? He died in the 2008 year, but until then he was confident that he did everything right - despite the fact that all the brothers considered their lives broken, and themselves as participants in a brutal game. Robert called the experiment Nazi, recalling the brutal research and torture of twins by the doctor Josef Mengele in concentration camps. At the same time, Neubauer himself was a Jewish refugee, whose family was touched by the Holocaust.
“They say we are members. But we were victims, ”says David Kellman.
Now the surviving brothers 56 years, and so far no one has apologized to them for their crippled fate.
