The secretary earned more than 9 millions of dollars by copying her boss’s investments for decades.
Sylvia Bloom grew up in Brooklyn and worked very hard throughout her life to make ends meet, writes Time.
In 1947, she began a partnership with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton.
“She was a secretary in an era when they practically controlled their boss's life, including their personal investments,” said her niece Jane Lokshin.
“Therefore, when the boss bought shares, she made a purchase for him, and then bought the same shares for herself, but in a smaller amount, because her secretary's salary did not allow spending the same amount,” said the millionaire's niece.
Paul Haams, who Bloom worked for, recalled that she went to work until she was 96. And then she decided to move into a home for the elderly to, as she explained, “play bridge”.
Bloom died in 2016, deciding to transfer most of the money to charity: 6,24 million dollars were transferred Henry Street Settlement; another 2 million dollars will be divided between Hunter College and other scholarship fund.
Bloom's late husband, Raymond Margoli, was a fireman, according to relatives, it is possible that he never knew about the state of his spouse.
