Often people, choosing frankly tasteless clothes in a business style, justify their choice by the presence of a dress code. We will try to highlight the obvious punctures and take a few steps to a really stylish and proper office style.

Business style is often confused because no one can clearly define its clear boundaries. Therefore, everyone puts their vision into this concept. In addition, under almost every article about business clothes, there are always a couple of dozen angry comments from style connoisseurs - about the impossibility of wearing this or that clothes “in their office, because there is a dress code”.

In addition to all this, presumably these same people, under office clothes, mean a dress that is tight-fitting to the figure, very often with very immodest details in the form of ruffles, lantern sleeves, huge bows on a rather shapeless blouse and turn-down collars. Connoisseurs of style wear ballet flats or ankle boots on their feet.

Another category is representatives of the banking and financial sectors of the business, where the dress code rules are one of the most stringent, and which are very clearly described in the relevant instructions. Representatives of this category quite often appear in public, though in jackets "according to the instructions", but not to the extent of "feminine" blouses. Thus, it seems that the majority of working women understand the image of a "provincial secretary" as a business style. And no matter where in the world they are, as well as their occupation, in the eyes of the rest they turn into a “secretary from the province”.

And there is nothing but dressing in a different way, you will not do!

It is from all this chaos that we will try to reach the unshakable principles of business style, which will help you avoid mistakes in the selection of clothes and look stylish.

The first step

To begin with, let's define what EXACTLY cannot be attributed to office style, no matter how creative or strict it may seem to you. smart casual. In this matter you need to understand that your opinion does not interest anyone, no matter how rough it may sound.

In fact, everything is simple. In the office do not wear:

Decollete. Not a V-neck on the sweater, but generously flavored push-up deep cleavage;

Transparent clothes, from under which shine underwear;

Shoes, richly decorated with rhinestones, gold and other bright and shiny details. Shoes with a hidden platform;

Mini-skirts that are worn on bare feet. Mini is only allowed on leggings or tight tights if you work in the creative field. A tight mini is unacceptable in general - only A-shaped and straight mini. Remember: only tight tights;

It is unacceptable to wear tights in the net, no matter how fashionable it is at this time! Other patterns are also unacceptable;

The second step

Let's define what is the attribute of the most strict dress code to which many appeal:

Shirt, blouse (only white or blue color, without pictures);

Jacket;

Trousers (in some companies, even they are banned);

A skirt that is slightly higher or slightly lower than the knee,

Classic pumps. Medium heel;

Smooth bag of inconspicuous colors.

And it's all. Literally. No dresses, fancy blouses, embossed bags. Even the color of the suits is strictly regulated - blue or black. Even gray is a departure from the classics. If your employer has defined such a dress code, it is almost impossible to go wrong. In your closet there will be only 5-6 almost identical suits and a set of identical shirts. Here it is important to remember only a few rules: a narrowed skirt often looks more profitable than a straight one, narrowed trousers are much more elegant than straight ones. And no boots with skirts! It's all.

The third step

Due to the fact that the overwhelming majority of office workers do not have such a strict dress code, which we described above, creativity begins here and - the most interesting thing. When variations are possible with the length and shape of skirts, blouses and shirts, dresses, jackets and jackets ...

And the question arises: why, for example, a disgusting knitted dress without sleeves, but with a belt, is considered decent and one that relates to business style, but, for example, a leather skirt is not? Why is it forbidden to wear a top with sequins under a white shirt made of dense fabric, and it is quite possible to decorate yourself with a miniskirt with a flounce and a transparent white blouse on a black bra?

Let's look at typical examples of what is often mistaken for an office dress code and which in no case should be allowed in practice. So, it is forbidden:

Wear boots with dresses and narrow skirts;

Once again we remind about shoes with a hidden platform and other ankle boots;

"Eternal classics". Some even see themselves in the image of Audrey Hepburn. All these silk headscarves, gloves, sheath dress ... It was great 50 years ago. It was. And a sheath dress is very difficult to pick up so as not to look like an orphan;

Too tight dresses, which show your sexuality, but not professionalism;

Things from substandard fabrics. It’s better to buy one thing than 3, but know that it looks perfect;

Try to avoid turtlenecks with strange collars.

The fourth step

And now we will look at examples of things that can and should be replaced with all those inappropriate outfits that were written about above. It is a properly selected wardrobe that will visually put you in the circle of your superiors and become “your own”. Or you will realize that you are out of place and it is time to rise higher.

So, we present excellent combinations:

A skirt that is tapered down (a non-glossy leather or suede is perfectly acceptable) with a fairly spacious shirt of thick cotton;

Skinny pants with a wide shirt. At the feet of the boat, slipona or loafers;

Spacious oversize, sweater dress;

Tight (this is important!), Straight cardigan, and not something shapeless from a rag, with simple straight pants and a shirt;

Oversize sweaters in combination with something from the above;

Slightly elongated blazers and jackets with a trouser or skirt classic;

If your Friday is more liberal in style of clothing, then a skinny skirt, navy straight jeans or skinny with a T-shirt without a bright print is what you need!

This is the simplest thing to always remember. Building a quality office wardrobe is easy enough. The main thing is to get away from the pseudo-business style. Then the presence of a dress code of any severity will only help you to emphasize yourself favorably and recommend correctly.
