Excessive shyness almost cost the life of an 18-year-old Malaysian migrant named Zhang Daming, who, along with a friend, went looking for work in Singapore.
At first everything went well: the young people rented a house and began to look for work. But one day Daming decided to go to lunch at a nearby cafe on his own and got lost.
For several hours Zhang unsuccessfully tried to remember the way back and get to know his house, but all the buildings seemed the same to him, and the search did not lead to anything.
The situation was complicated by the fact that the Malaysian left his phone and passport in the apartment, and took only a little cash with him.
Instead of asking the passers-by for directions, Zhang decided to continue to look for her on his own. As a result, the young man spent on the street 10 days. He spent the night under the open sky, used the latrines in shopping centers, and with the money that he had with him, he bought cheap boiled rice.
When the money ran out, he asked passersby for cash a couple of times, but he was still shy to ask for directions.
After 10 days of a young man identified an elderly lady, who saw on the street an announcement of his disappearance. It turns out that Daming's friend immediately after his disappearance went to the police, and there he began to search for him.
After Zhang's story hit the media, journalists contacted the young man. He told them that he had tried to find the police station all 10 days, but this too proved to be an impossible task. After he was found, Zhang decided to return to his native Malaysia and never come to Singapore again.
