Vishnevsky ointment, which was in almost every home medicine chest and was used regularly. Bruises, cuts, wounds, boils, boils, dermatitis - many different injuries and sores were treated mainly with this ointment. And unexpectedly for consumers it was banned.

Its composition was proposed in the pre-war years as an antiseptic and stimulating healing agent for purulent wounds, Dr. Vishnevsky, son of the USSR Minister of Health.
The composition of this tool is simple: birch tar and animal fatty basis. During World War II, Vishnevsky ointment was used in field hospitals everywhere, since other potent drugs that could replace this drug did not exist in the required quantities.
But already in the postwar years, many doctors insisted: Vishnevsky's ointment should remain in the past. In particular, Professor L. A. Blatun from the Institute of Surgery of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences wrote that he considers the use of this drug, which he called outdated, to be illegal because of the large number of complications and at least unproven effectiveness. The mechanism of action of Vishnevsky's ointment was simple: by covering the wound with an airtight film, it stimulated the heating of the tissues and the pulling out of purulent exudate. However, the same heating stimulated the rapid growth of microbes under a layer of ointment, which led to numerous complications, including gangrene.
According to doctors, Vishnevsky ointment does not have anesthetic and anti-edema effect, aggravates inflammatory processes in diabetic ulceration, provokes bleeding and may even lead to serious consequences, including cancer.
Surgeon Alexei Mospanov states: “Vishnevsky ointment is the day before yesterday. There are so many complications from it that there is no need to talk about any therapeutic effect. If your doctor prescribes this ointment, change the doctor. Worse than the drug, I can not remember.
However, some doctors still prescribe this ointment for a number of diseases, trying to treat even hemorrhoids, lesions of the intestinal mucosa, boils and other diseases with its help. Never use Vishnevsky ointment also for mastitis, gynecological diseases, bleeding, abscesses, fistulas, arthrosis and arthritis, diathesis, allergies, wounds and injuries ... In general, there is no such disease for which Vishnevsky ointment could be useful.
