Many old apartments still have a small ceiling window that leads from the kitchen to the bathroom. If you think that this is to save electricity, this is not entirely true.
In fact, the bathroom is used either early in the morning or late in the evening, when there is almost no sunlight in the kitchen, writes Rambler. And the height of the window and its size do not allow to miss as much as it is needed.
There are several versions that describe the purpose of this window.
The first reason is security. The fact is that in many apartments geysers were located in bathrooms. In the event of an explosion or gas leak, this small window would take on a shock wave.
The second reason is ventilation. It is a bit controversial, since in some apartments the window cannot be opened or even ajar, and the hood in the bathroom has always been. But this version still makes sense, since in other apartments it could be used as ventilation.

Another version is related to mold. It was believed that such a window could be a preventive measure due to greater access of air and sunlight.
Also, thanks to this layout, it was possible to observe a small child in the bathroom. Or creep in there if someone from adults becomes ill.
