Relatives and friends mourn a couple from New Jersey, who died in a chain car accident on the highway on the way to their wedding.
35-year-old Kathryn Schurz and her fiance Joseph Kearney drove westbound on I-78 to Windsor-Township, Burks County, on Wednesday around 14: 30 when the accident occurred, writes NBC New York.
At this time, traffic was strained along both western lanes due to the accident that happened earlier on the 32,5 highway mile. The cargo truck, which was moving in the same direction, could not stop because of the traffic jam in front. Having crashed into the car of the bride and groom, the wagon pressed it into another truck-trailer, which created a chain reaction, as a result of which three more trucks of the same type collided.
A car of a pair and two cargo trucks caught fire. Shurtz and Kearney died as a result of the crash, three more people were injured. The bride and groom went to their own wedding, which was to be held in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Schurz was born in Elizabeth and raised in Fanwood, New Jersey. She graduated from Scotch Plains Catholic School and attended George Washington University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts and MBA from the University of Notre Dame. Schurz worked as a Partner Project Manager for Oracle Data Cloud in New York City and lived in Jersey City.
Farewell to a couple in love will be held on Monday and Tuesday in Scotch Plains, New Jersey. In the Catholic school, where the lost bride studied, a scholarship fund was organized, where the family asked to donate money instead of flowers in memory of Catherine and Joseph.
