The manufacturer has withdrawn the dresser from worldwide retail sales back in June 2016 of the year. The statement said that all consumers should stop using such a chest of drawers as soon as possible, because the fixture did not properly fix the heavy piece of furniture on the wall. In total 29 was withdrawn from millions of lockers and chest of drawers, which included various models with three to six drawers.
Little Joseph Dudek was asleep in his bed when a heavy chest of drawers with three drawers, hanging on the wall, fell over him. In the commentary, the representative of the company said: "Our hearts and sincere condolences to the affected family in the most difficult period of their lives." An internal investigation revealed that the dresser was not securely attached to the wall.
Nancy Coles, executive director of the non-profit organization “Children in Danger”, is convinced that IKEA is not active enough to reach out to all parents who have bought at least one similar chest of drawers.
