Immigrants from the CIS countries living in America often receive a familiar and proven means as a gift from their homeland - paracetamolwhich is used for high temperature and pain. The drug seems harmless, but it is not quite so, especially when it comes to pregnancy, writes The Daily Mail.
A study by experts from the UK reports that using paracetamol during pregnancy can lead to a decrease in fertility (ability to conceive) in a child. At the same time, the probability of successfully becoming a mother for girls is reduced by 40%. Experts say that this also applies to boys, but to a lesser extent: the egg supply in the woman’s ovaries is formed at the fetus stage and does not change during life, whereas the sperm cells are regularly updated.
But that is not all. Experts from Sweden referred to Mirror, they say that taking paracetamol at the beginning of pregnancy six times more often leads to a delay in speech development in children - and here girls also suffer more. We are talking about 8-13 weeks of pregnancy, when the drug is better not to get involved.
It is noteworthy that neither those nor other experts name the exact dosage. It should be borne in mind that paracetamol - it is acetaminophen - is a component and most american painkillers and antipyretic drugs (for example, Tylenol and Panadol) officially approved for pregnant women.
What to do? Take the medicine as agreed with the doctor, in a strictly adjusted dosage and for clear indications. If you received a package from your homeland, do not self-medicate - discuss taking the drug with a specialist.
