According to the journal Nature Communication, scientists have found a new way to accelerate hair growth and protect the hair follicles cells from age-related damage. An international group of scientists from Germany and the UK has found that the aroma of sandalwood effectively helps to save the hair.
Scientific experts conducted experiments with samples of the scalp taken from patients undergoing a facelift, writes MedicForum. Skin patches were placed in a solution with molecules of the synthetic smell of sandalwood. It turned out that after that, the hormone responsible for hair growth became more active in them - on average, its production increased by 25-30%.
According to scientists, the assumption that the smell of sandalwood can activate hair growth, arose even earlier. The study of the issue showed that the OR2AT4 skin olfactory receptor is able to be activated under the influence of sandalwood. This time, the researchers were able to ascertain that the OR2AT4 receptor, in case of contact with the molecules of a substance with a sandalwood scent, slows down the aging of cells associated with hair growth.
“Under the influence of the scent of sandalwood, OR2AT4 triggers a complex signaling process, as a result of which skin cells begin to divide more intensively and move faster to the desired place. Approximately the same molecular processes must occur in order for new hair to grow on the skin, "- said the authors of the project in the journal publication.
According to experts, the smell of sandalwood not only accelerates hair growth and protects against baldness, but also enhances the processes of skin regeneration when it is damaged - all thanks to the sensitivity of the OR2AT4 receptor to this aroma.
