The US Department of Health warns: children's positioners are life threatening!

The US Department of Health and Human Services published official warning for parents, the department does not recommend placing babies to sleep in baby sleep positioners.
Positioners are special devices that fix the baby in a certain position. Initially, they were created precisely in order to prevent a potential child from suffocating due to turning over (for example, so that the baby does not put his nose in a pillow or mattress). But health experts are convinced that the positioner itself can lead to the same consequences, which, in turn, end in tragedy.
The official statement says that every year in the United States, because of sudden suffocation or unexplained reasons, more than 4000 babies die during sleep. Federal authorities regularly receive reports on children who died due to asphyxiation, which occurred after the infant fell asleep in the positioner and was later found in a life-threatening pose. Most often, the children, who still could not keep and turn their heads, turned over directly in the positioner and buried their faces in its soft material. In some cases, the children rolled out of the positioner - they were found lying face down on mattresses.
The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that babies sleep solely on their backs, on a flat, empty surface, where there should not be any soft objects, toys, pillows or badly stretched sheets. Experts warn parents against using positioners, pillows and blankets, soft toys during the sleep of a child.
