The death of a seven-year-old boy due to a bacterial infection of the throat, which could be cured in a few days, was called by the investigation senseless. And in this situation, it really was not an accident, writes New York Post.
Tamara Lovett, 48, was sentenced to three years in prison for criminal negligence after her 7-year-old son, suffering from strep throat infection, died after his mother did not take the child to the doctor. Judge Christine Eidswick said the boy died "a meaningless, painful death." She stressed that the mother was not to blame for the boy getting sick, but her indifference and lack of professional medical help led to the death of the child.
For 10 days Lovett tried to treat her son with folk remedies - oregano oil and dandelion tea, while the infection was developing very actively and required more serious intervention. She still called the ambulance, but when the paramedics arrived, the child was already dead. The mother herself says that she was sure that the child had a cold.
“I cannot forgive myself,” the woman cried at the trial. “I hope other people will learn from my ignorance.”
