If your baby was born in the USA, it automatically acquires American citizenship. Below, I present the step-by-step steps for obtaining documents. She wrote based on her experience, but the information may differ depending on the hospital, city and state. Be sure to check everything on official sites.

Birth certificate
At the hospital, they brought us the necessary questionnaire, the staff himself handed over our forms to the appropriate department, and we received the finished document by mail.

By deadlines - standard documents are sent via 4-6 weeks. But because of the upcoming trip, we needed to get a certificate faster, so after 2 weeks we went to the department and took it for an additional fee.

The questionnaire was also brought to the hospital, the card was also received by mail. In America, in principle, a lot of documents are sent by regular mail. In terms of 4-6 weeks it was announced, but we got much earlier, maybe in a couple of three weeks.

USA Passport
After receiving a birth certificate, you need to apply for a US passport. You need to go to the site and find the nearest post office where you receive documents and make an appointment. Mom, dad and baby are required.

- birth certificate;
- passport or ID of both parents;
- 2 photo ”x 2 ″;
- form DS-11;
- debit card or checks for tax payment.
There was a long line at the post office. We diligently stood at the end, despite the presence of a newborn and a preliminary record. By the way, only in the states I learned to wait and not to stick out. Nobody cares here about who you are, how cool you are and whether you rush somewhere - the rules are the same for everyone. When, after a minute of 40, one of the staff members approached us and asked if there was someone by appointment, I realized that I had lost all my skills confidently, sometimes brazenly resolving issues. In general, the employee said that it was necessary to immediately approach the window.
