Every parent knows: let's go to the children's team - get ready for the child's adaptation in a new environment with new viruses, which means ARI will be quite common. In Russia, it is possible to visit / not visit the garden by the decision of the parent. How are things at our American Preschool?
If you read the memo for parents, then the first thing you will see is a warning: do not send children to school sick, it is dangerous for others and for the child himself. Who is considered a “sick child” here?
Here is a list of problems:
- the child's temperature is 37.7 and above (i.e. if it is lower, you can go to classes);
- child sick in the morning or at night directly in front of the school
- the child has an extremely strong paroxysmal cough;
- child has a rash;
- the child has lice;
- scarlet fever;
Accordingly, the typical acute respiratory disease does not correspond to the notion of a “sick child”, therefore, they don’t sit at home with him, but attend classes.
If the temperature has risen and you want to sit at home, then we have 3 of the day without visiting a doctor for such cases. BUT! Every morning you need to call the school and warn about your absence, indicating the reason.
On the fourth day of illness, if you are not yet ready to go to school, you must already visit a pediatrician and receive official paper or come to the Nurse (nurse's office for an examination).
Get a medical letter from a pediatrician or a nurse with symptoms such as a runny nose, sore throat, a weak cough and a small temperature does not work - you need to go to school.
If after three days you cannot confirm the seriousness of the disease, the child is expelled from the class and the next person on the waiting list is replaced because there are more people who want free places in the public school than places.
It is believed that adaptation to children's viruses takes one season here (autumn - spring) and the child tolerates it better if he does not sit at home until the end of the illness, and goes to school if he feels good.
What do American pediatricians prescribe for acute respiratory infections?
If you come to the reception with a complaint of a small runny nose, you, of course, will be accepted, but will be told not to waste time and money next time and go to school if there is no suspicion of something serious. Simple acute respiratory infections are treated independently by attending classes.
If you still come to the reception, then the recommendations are as follows: salt water in the nose and mouth, humidity in the house, drinking liquid with lemon, vitamin C. No recipe is given for anything from this list (it means that the insurance does not cover these costs), and you buy it at any supermarket or pharmacy.
If the sore throat hurts, then another test for a sore throat will be added to the examination, if it does not exist according to the results, the treatment is the same. No blood tests with a simple OCR do.
Antibiotics, vasoconstrictor and a bunch of other ancillary drugs for acute respiratory infections here are not prescribed, especially do nothing with a dry cough, which is formed because of a cold, no expectorant and other ancillary drugs.
