In the US, there is no strict legislation in this regard. For the most part, it all depends on the employer. Usually, women are given a decree on the 3 month after childbirth (in California), often unpaid. Then some time can take dad. And after that the children are hired by a nanny or given to day care (nursery where babies are taken from 6 weeks!). I have no idea that I now gave Valeria to someone. But sometimes people simply have no other way out.
In the US, it is not customary for grandparents to help with children. Come and see, yes. But not to devote their lives to their grandchildren, they already had their own children, now it’s the turn of the young to turn.
When I tell my American friends that in Russia with children they sit up to 3 years, and they also leave work 3 a month before giving birth, their jaws fall off in the literal sense of the word.
The same thing happens with my Russian friends, whom I tell about the unfortunate American 3 of the month of the decree.
At a recent party where we went to watch Super Bowl, all mummies had children from 4 months to 1, and they all came to work already. Even it was somehow embarrassing to me that I was sitting at home.
But, of course, there are women in the USA who leave home and dedicate themselves to children and home.
Her husband's sister lives in Florida, soon her daughter will be a year. Gabriela's contractions began right at work, the first 3 months after giving birth to a child, Gaby was at home, then her husband's 2 months, then one grandmother came to them for a month, and another for a month. Gaby didn't want to give up the child in 7 months in day care and quit her job. Now she is freelancing and working from home. But not all women have this opportunity.
Therefore, I am very glad that at least in the first year of life I can be close to Valeria, but at the same time I really want to work, I just miss the time when I went to the office.
