Last year, the winner was Cara McCullough, who tried on the crown in Las Vegas. By the beginning of the two-hour broadcast in the semifinals, there were only 15 participants who competed on Monday. The circle was narrowed as the finalists performed in evening dresses, swimsuits, were interviewed as part of the competition.
The three contestants who made it to the finals - Summers, Kaylynn Miller-Keys of North Carolina, and Carolina Urrea of Nevada - were asked what they would write on a blank form if it was a hypothetical march in the name of something important.

The winners were selected based on a combination of the results of individual competitions, the jury included women entrepreneurs and business leaders, as well as online voting. Participants also included a US Army sergeant, a certified newborn intensive care nurse, and a police officer. Summers will now represent the United States in the Miss Universe Pageant.
