Ketodiet or LCHF (Low carbs high fat) - this is a relatively new food system, which quickly gained popularity due to its revolutionary approach, which limits the consumption of carbohydrates and relies on fats.
So what is ketodiet?
Initially, the ketogenic diet was developed to treat epilepsy. A large number of proteins contributes to the rapid regeneration of the body, and the restriction of glucose (that is, carbohydrates) and an increase in the amount of fat contributes to the production of ketone bodies. Increasing the level of ketone bodies in the blood of patients with epilepsy leads to a decrease in the frequency of attacks.
A little later, this diet was chosen by athletes. They use it for quick drying before long loads.
Weight loss with such a food system is quite fast - this is due to the fact that in the beginning, when there is a lack of carbohydrates, the body loses excess fluid. And then, in the process of restructuring, the body uses the fats that have already been accumulated to ensure vital activity.
What you can and can not eat on a diet
Completely excluded:
- sugar of natural and artificial origin, sweeteners, sweet fruits;
- starch - potatoes, cereals, pasta, bread;
- semi-finished products;
- alcohol containing carbohydrates.

- meat;
- bird;
- seafood and fish;
- eggs;
- vegetable oil;

Contraindications and dangers of ketodiets
Experts agree that diabetics such a diet is strictly contraindicated. People who have diseases of the digestive system, kidney stones, problems with the work of the liver and pancreas should not begin such experiments with food without consulting a doctor.
Among the side effects of ketodiete reveal:
- ketoacidosis - a serious disorder of carbohydrate metabolism arising from insulin deficiency and associated with an increase in the concentration of ketone bodies in the human blood;
- weakness and rapid fatigability - at the beginning of the diet, this is possible, since the amount of carbohydrates that the body is used to using to support life is sharply reduced;
- lack of vitamins. Due to severe dietary restrictions, there may be a need for additional sources of nutrients and dietary supplements;
- increased cholesterol - due to the large amount of saturated fats, the cardiovascular system can suffer, therefore it is better that the basis of the diet are "healthy" fats - for example, fish, vegetable oils, and so on.
Thus, ketodiet should be treated very carefully and be sure to consult with doctors about the possibility of its use.
