Student Courtney Uourne lost a finger because she had a habit of biting her nails. 20-year-old girl admitted that she began to bite her nails in moments when she felt anxious because she was often attacked at school.
When her finger literally began to turn black, she was horrified, but decided to hide it from her family and friends. This went on for four years, notes Lenta.ru with reference to Mirror.
When she did decide to go to the doctor, it turned out that she had acral-lentiginous melanoma. She went to the hospital rather for aesthetic reasons, since she did not want to live with a black finger. The surgeon removed the dark growth and, just in case, sent a sample of healthy flesh for a biopsy. As a result, she learned about her diagnosis.
She watched as a second year student at the faculty of psychology at the institute, but was forced to take a break for a year because she could not write. She has already had four surgeries.
