Yesterday, January 27, the world honored the International Holocaust Remembrance Day. Every year on this day, humanity recalls the terrible events of those days and pays tribute to the victims of genocide. Yesterday, the Dukes of Cambridge took part in a ceremony in Wetminster, dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the release of prisoners from Nazi concentration camps. In one of the pictures 82-year-old Yvonne Bernstein. She comes from Germany, during the genocide she was hidden in France, and her uncle, who sheltered the girl, was executed. The Duchess photographed her along with 11-year-old granddaughter Chloe Wright. The German identity card dated March 3, 1939, on which the letter “J”, denoting Jews, was engraved on the frame. In another photo, 84-year-old Stephen Frank. He was born in Amsterdam and survived several concentration camps. His father did not wait for release, he died in a gas chamber. Next to his grandfather, his two granddaughters - 15-year-old Maggie and 13-year-old Trixie Fleet. In the picture you can see the pan in which my mother cooked food in captivity. Stephen brought up the tomatoes on a plate himself; he was taught this by one of the prisoners at Theresienstadt Camp.

“He taught me to choose grains from rotten tomatoes and grow my own. I was his little assistant. And when he was sent to Poland, he asked to take care of the plants. I was eight years old, I was very proud. Since the war, I have been growing tomatoes at home in a greenhouse and remember this man whose name I didn’t even know, ”Frank told his story.
In the 40s, both Yvonne and Stephen moved to the UK and managed to recover from the horrors of the Holocaust, build a happy life and create strong families.
Kate said that meeting the survivors was an honor and a privilege for her that she would always remember.
“The terrifying atrocities of the Holocaust, which were caused by an inconceivable evil, will forever lay a heavy burden in our hearts. And yet it is through the most unimaginable adversities that the most wonderful people blossom. Despite the incredible trauma at the beginning of their lives, Yvonne Bernstein and Stephen Frank are the two most life-affirming people I've met. It is very important that their memory is preserved and passed on to future generations, so that what they went through is never forgotten. Their stories will stay with me forever, ”Mirror quoted the wife of Prince William as saying.
