Narine Ishanova, an immigrant from Turkmenistan, represented the state of Utah in the Miss USA 2018 pageant on May 21.
As the ethnic Turkmen woman told the media, it took her six tries to win the Miss Utah title and represent the state in the country's competition. Kaktus.media.
“I remember the first two years of the competition, when I was afraid to show who I am, where I came from and what languages I speak, because I was bullied. Only in the third year, when I was not afraid to open up, I reached the top 5, ”the girl said.
Narine is the daughter of immigrants from Turkmenistan who came to the United States when she was 11 years old.
“It was very difficult to move to the USA. For four years we had to live separately from our father. But there is no future for children in Turkmenistan, and only when we got to America, we realized that we had become free people, ”Narine said.
However, the girl could not win the contest. The winner was 23-year-old Sarah Rose Summers from Nebraska.
