Gynecologist told about the unexpected danger of tampons

The more actively our society develops, the more often we no longer just use the benefits of civilization, but begin to ask questions: what is it made of, is it safe, will it bring benefits? According to doctors, in the past few years, women are increasingly asking about what they consist of and how ordinary tampons affect their health. Gynecologist Shirin Irani told Metro about why you should not use tampons in the last days of menstruation.
“Essentially,” the doctor says, “tampons are pieces of absorbent cotton containing some artificial fibers for an absorbent effect. This means that if there is liquid around the tampon, it will absorb it.” And if in the first 2-3 days of menstruation in the vagina there are quite abundant blood discharges, then in the last days of menstruation, the tampon absorbs some of the natural secretions of the genital tract. All this causes dryness, difficulty in removing the tampon, up to pain, and may also affect the composition of the female microflora.
Why is it possible? According to Dr. Irani, now we can talk about the potential dangers of tampons in the same way as about the theoretical effect of mobile phones on brain tumors. Maybe soon we will get some frightening evidence, but maybe it's not that bad. In any case, already now in their practice, gynecologists receive complaints of dryness and discomfort from patients who are accustomed to using tampons from the first to the last day of menstruation.
What to do? Use tampons with an appropriate number of “drops” on the package - thicker during heavy bleeding, small and less dense on other days. And when there is almost no discharge, it is better to use pads.
