Dustin Hoffman was born on August 8 of the year 1937 in Los Angeles. His mother was a jazz pianist, and his father during the Great Depression changed several occupations. Parents are descendants of Jewish immigrants from Ukraine, Poland and Romania. His paternal grandparents, Frank and Esther Hoffman, emigrated to Chicago.
Hoffman's acting debut took place at the age of 19 - in the film "Tiger Coming Out", and stage - much earlier. After graduating from an acting studio in New York, Dustin first began acting in the theater, and in the second half of the 1960s - in the cinema.
In 1967, Hoffman landed a prominent role in Mike Nichols's The Graduate, based on the novel of the same name by Charles Webb.
