What to do when the English word has flown out of my head

Chris, an English teacher from the United States, who has lived in Russia for eight years, decided to share a simple and interesting life hack for those who are learning the language. “This is what we Americans do to replace words in a sentence, but I think it will be especially useful for English learners!”
Everyone was in such a situation when in a conversation it flew out of their minds how to name an object in English (or you never knew it). You are trying to remember this word in a panic, there is an awkward pause in the conversation, you are ashamed ... Such moments can discourage the desire to speak English in general. Believe me, I've often had this with the Russian, - writes Chris for Pikabu.
Advice from me: use the word thingy [ˈθɪŋi]. Translated as a thing, stuff.
For example:
You are in a company collecting a puzzle and want to say that a few pieces are missing.
- The puzzle is missing a couple of these things (while showing the interlocutor, a piece of the puzzle).
Do you think you have to wear those protective things?
- What are those mask things?
We were recently told that Betty has one of these ... tablets, abstruse things.
- We just got told, Betty's got one of these ... tablet, clever thingies.

When the format of classes in a classroom or with a tutor becomes familiar, and putting up new words on stickers is no longer as effective, it seems that nothing will help to speak in a foreign language. There is a fast and efficient way to become a polyglot.
