The main hitmaker of the outgoing year, Anton Pustovoy, told how he “conjured” the song “action movie” - the famous composition “The color of the mood is blue”, which was performed by Philip Kirkorov.
The outgoing year musically can be called the year of Kirkorov. 51 million views in YouTube at the clip "Color of the mood is blue", 20 million collected no less scandalous "Ibiza". Plus 21 million views apologies for "Ibiza" and 79 million views duet video with Egor Creed "Color of Mood is Black," writes TVNZ.
It is not surprising that the king of the Russian pop scene has collected a large "harvest" of awards at the most influential music awards: "Golden Gramophone", "Song of the Year". And last Saturday, Philip took two gold statuettes at the Russian national music award "Victoria" (our analogue of the Grammy). Kirkorov won in two nominations at once - "Artist of the Year" and "Best Video" ("The color of the mood is blue").
- No wonder they say that after 50 life is just beginning. And you can see this in my example! - said, receiving awards, Kirkorov.
One of the first artists to share the joy of triumph with the composer and poet Anton Pustov. It was this 37-year-old who wrote the main hit of the year, "The color of the mood is blue."
We got through to Pustovov and asked how this song was created.
It turns out that two years ago Anton Pustovoy, a graduate of the circus and pop college, did not even imagine that the whole country would sing his songs. Anton worked as a concert promoter, but this profession quickly bored him. Pustovoy decided to make a living with his favorite hobby - music. Rented a studio, recruited a small team. When the song was received, I found contacts of the artists' representatives in social networks and sent them my works for consideration.
“It took me a long time to fill my hand, sometimes I had to rewrite the text 8-10 times,” recalls Pustovoy.
- But they wrote a super hit. Congratulations!
- Thank! By the way, at the “Song of the Year” I was also awarded for the song “Drunk Cherry” by Christina Orbakaite and was given the title of “Best Composer of the Year”.
But still, “The color of the mood is blue,” of course, has become my most significant song.
- On the same "Song of the Year" I accidentally overheard the conversation of your colleagues. In their opinion, you are lucky that Kirkorov sang this song. Like, if you gave it to other artists, there would be no such "explosion".
- Sure. Here is a successful song and a great merit of Philip. They seem to have been created for each other. I have songs that are no less successful, they are sung by other artists of the first magnitude, but for some reason I can't shoot.
Phillip not only made this song a hit, he also expanded his target audience. I do not think that the adult public has turned away from him. Yes, they may not have accepted this song, but they will still go to his concerts, because Kirkorov has a diverse repertoire.
Phillip in 2018, of course, rejuvenated his audience. Earlier, as it seems to me, he had an audience of “40 plus”, and now even Kirkorov’s students are listening. My son is seven years old, he also loves the song "The color of the mood is blue."
- What did your son say after watching the video?
- Dad, is this uncle bad? Look, he swears in the video! (Laughs.)
- Did you present the "Blue Mood Color" to Philip or sold it?
- I worked for a fee. There are, of course, authors who donate their songs to them for happiness if a great artist takes their work. Probably, such authors have some other source of income. But with me everything is different: I live on this money, this is my bread. On me is a studio, an apartment, a family. It all depends on how dad works.
- Did you manage to make good money on this song?
- Sure. Earning continues. Kirkorov is one of the few artists who reserves the rights to songs for the authors. And while the song lives and rotates, every month I receive royalties.
It is still difficult to predict what amount will come in the end.
- Have you already earned a million rubles (15000 dollars - ed.)?
- I've already earned more. The hit has lived for more than one year, it never ceases to sound on radio stations, in television programs, it is taken into commercials and soundtracks.
Philip 25 December at the "Olympic" premiere of a new show. After that, he will go on tour, where he will continue to sing "The color of the mood is blue." I think, still decently earn on this song.
- How long have you worked on the song?
- Not. Philip did not let her out for a long time. He already had it in September 2017, and he released it only in February 2018.
- Kirkorov immediately realized that there was a hit in front of him?
- Not right away. He believed in her only after his son Martin liked the song. They were on vacation in Bulgaria, traveling by car. The journey was long - 3 hours behind the wheel. And Philip decided not to waste time, to listen to the songs that the authors send him. Kirkorov turned on the "Mood color blue", listened, did not catch on. I switched to another song. But Martin asked his father to turn Mood Color Blue back on:
"Dad, turn on the song about me!"
Philip asks, they say, what. What the child says: "In the hands of Martini!" (Laughs.). So they, because of Martin, listened to my song all the way. Philip saw that his son liked the song, he decided to record.
- Did you send this song to other artists?
- I sent it to other artists too. They didn't see themselves in this song. First, I sent it to the sound producer Tolik Lopatin.
Tolya and I had previously spoken about Christina Orbakaite, who through him took three songs from me.
And he said to me: "If there is something for Philip, send it out!"
- I heard that you poisoned this song to Kristina Orbakaite and Nikolai Baskov.
- I sent almost the entire first echelon. Christina heard her first, but only in the female version (the text is the same, but on behalf of the lady).
We had a funny story with Ibiza. I wrote this song by order of Philip, as a continuation of "The color of the mood is blue." But Philip didn’t answer anything when I sent him a song. As it turned out later, he was at this time in the Eurovision contest with the Moldavian group Dredos. He was there so shook up in two weeks that he did not even check the mail. And I thought that he was not responding, because the song did not fit. And then I sent the Ibiza to Nikolai Baskov.
And then Philip calls with the words that he wants to pick up the Ibiza. I explained to him that Nikolai had already bought it. “We have a great relationship. Now we will settle everything! ”Philip told me and went to call Baskov. The duo was born.
- Ibiza also has an interesting fate. As soon as it came out, it was immediately banned from some radio stations, then many federal channels refused to show the clip ...
- The video brought the scandalousness of this song. There the text is ordinary, without a mat. Why ban it? I do not understand.
- It's a play on words. In the chorus, many people hear an obscene word.
- Everyone hears what he wants to hear. It all depends on the person. I think it all started with a comic video on Garik “Bulldog” Kharlamov’s Instagram (the showman posted a vulgar cartoon where all kinds of animals copulate under “Ibiza” - Ed.).
People wanted to see her like that - that's their right. But the clip added more tar, of course. The song went so well at first. I honestly thought she would surpass Mood Color Blue in popularity.
Still, the two artists of the first echelon sang. And when the video came out, bans on federal channels began immediately, and the song sagged. A little overdone Sasha Gudkov (director of "Ibiza").
- That is why they released a new comic video - an apology for Ibiza.
- I live in Kiev, I don't see much that happened around this song, what was the reaction to it.
I heard that the deputies were outraged, the organizations of children and young people were noisy, that such clips could not be shown, it was necessary to depose Philip and Nikolay of all titles.
Therefore, they did the right thing that recorded an apology. Probably felt that Sasha Gudkov still overdone the stick. A little play.
Philip and Nikolai spend a lot of time abroad, they know that such humor is appropriate for the western artist, and even welcome. And when some grandmother from Novosibirsk is watching TV, at her sight of “Ibiza” a little bit the terminal sinks down (Laughs.).
In my opinion, nothing terrible is there. For guys, this is an experiment. It is clear that "Ibiza" could be removed softer, but still the experiment was a success. And about this they say the results of the year and what we took took all sorts of music awards.
- All Russian stars probably rushed to you, asking you to write a hit ...
- I can't say that everything, but there are orders. Here you have to understand that I will not write "Blue-2 mood color" for another artist. Everyone needs an approach. You need to look for something new. I’m not a meat-packing plant, which received an award for quality and now it’s the only place where people buy products. They called from Vitas, Seryozha Lazarev. For them I wrote a little different, they have their own way.
There are calls, letters are coming, now you need to fall into the style of an artist, so that hits are born.
- Will you still write for Philip?
- There is a song. My studio team really likes her. If Philip writes it down, then I think that next year we will take no less music awards. Philip seemed to agree, said: "We will do it!". But this is an artist: if tomorrow they send him another song that he likes, he will record it, not mine. So far I have agreed, but we'll see.
- And what will the song be about?
- About love. If in the song "The color of the mood is blue" the lady was lonely, now everything is fine with her.
Kolya Baskov also became interested in two songs, but for now it is difficult to say whether he will release them or not. Kolya and I now worked on the musical “Three Heroes”. I made him a song of the prince, to whom he gave his voice in this performance. Alexander Revva bought the song. Should be out too soon. In general, we work as usual.
- They say that Alla Pugacheva is preparing a concert program for the upcoming anniversary. Did you send your songs to her?
- Not. Alla Borisovna is a legendary personality who sang the best hits of our mastodons. I don't think she is interested in the songs I write. This is not her format. After "Ancient Hours" and "Iceberg" she will hardly sing something radically different. When I started writing songs, I decided that they would not be serious. There are a lot of authors who write lyrics with meaning. It makes no sense for me to compete with them. I decided that I needed to write in a different genre to stand out. There is no need to think out anything in my songs, they are direct.
Of course, I can write in a different genre, but for now I want to have fun and rejoice in my songs. We found our wave, I want to stay on it as long as possible. But this does not mean that suddenly I will not be covered tomorrow and I will come to the studio and write a song for Alla Pugacheva.
- How do you, by the way, communicate with Kirkorov?
- I didn’t imagine him that way. I thought he was starry and arrogant. It turned out that he was not like that. I was surprised that a person does not drink at all, leads a healthy lifestyle.
We correspond sometimes, talking about forty minutes on the phone. Human turned out to be attentive.
