People's Artist of Russia Valentin Gaft died at the age of 85. The actor's wife Olga Ostroumova called the cause of death the consequences of a stroke suffered in August 2019. Over the past 50 years, Gaft has been a permanent member of the Sovremennik Theater troupe.
Valentin Gaft will be buried on December 15 in the alley of art workers at the Troekurovsky cemetery in Moscow, writes TASS, citing a source in the field of culture. Farewell to the actor will take place on the same day - on Tuesday, December 15, at the Sovremennik Theater.
The artistic director of Sovremennik, Viktor Ryzhakov, called Gaft's death a great loss for the theater world.
“Gaft is the whole story of Sovremennik and the theater as a whole. The greatest artist with the greatest gift, which hardly anyone will be able to conquer. In Gaft, love for a person and sarcasm are combined. I always compare him with Chekhov. Big loss. For the whole theater, "Ryzhakov said in a conversation with Gazeta.Ru.
Actress Irina Alferova, who played with Gaft in the TV serial "Night Fun", shared her memories of her colleague with Gazeta.Ru.
“This is terrible news. Some bad messenger. It is simply impossible ... Not only is he a wonderful actor, he is also a wonderful person, "she said.
Alferova emphasized that she watched the last performance, in which Gaft played together with Said Bagov, "As long as there is space."
"He was very energetic ... Then the stroke," continued the actress. - He was a smart artist, it was so great. [His death] is a disaster. "

The actor's wife, actress Olga Ostroumova, told the Mash Telegram channel that the cause of death was the consequences of a stroke suffered in August 2019.
“He had a stroke a year ago, even more. These are the consequences of a stroke, the consequences and everything else, ”Ostroumova clarified.
In early August, Gaft suffered a stroke, after which he was urgently hospitalized in one of the Moscow clinics. For some time the actor was in intensive care, after which he was transferred to neurology.
Valentin Gaft was born in Moscow on September 2, 1935. In 1957, he graduated from the Moscow Art Theater School, after which he worked at the Moscow Drama Theater, the Mossovet Theater, Lenkom and the Satire Theater.

In 1969 Valentin Gaft joined the Sovremennik troupe. Here he played Pyotr Aduyev in An Ordinary History, Vershinin from Three Sisters, the mayor in The Inspector General, and many other roles.
In 2001, the artist made his debut in his theater as a director with a new version of the play "Balalaikin and Co". In 2018, the premiere of the play "As long as space exists" took place on the stage.
In 2019, after a stroke, the shows were canceled, and in 2020 the actor did not go on stage.
