BBC presenter Danny Baker was fired over a tweet with a photo of a couple holding hands of a dressed chimpanzee with the caption “the royal baby left the hospital”. The presenter himself considers his action "stupid".
“Just fired from BBC 5,” the former BBC Radio 5 Live presenter tweeted on Thursday. Russian Air Service.
The post of 61-year-old Baker, because of which he lost his job, is now removed, but he received a rather large response.
Baker is accused of mocking the race of the Duchess of Sussex Megan. The wife of Prince Harry last year became the first ever member of the British royal dynasty of mixed race.
Baker's tweet was a "serious mistake," a BBC spokesman commented on the situation.
The tweet “runs counter to the values that we, as a company, are trying to embody,” added the broadcasting corporation.
“Danny is a great host, but he will no longer host the weekly show with us,” a BBC spokesman said.
On Wednesday, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Megan, first showed to the public their firstborn, who was born on Monday 6 in May. Decided to call him Archie Harrison Mountbetten-Windsor.

Twitter users found Baker's post offensive and criticized him, after which he wrote: “Sorry that my photo of a baby in a pompous outfit caused such a reaction. It didn’t even occur to me [that the post could be interpreted as racist] because my brain is not infected with it. ”
“As soon as the kind people pointed out to me the possible shades of meaning, I understood everything. That's all that happened, ”he wrote.
“Comic picture. Overdressed chimpanzee. They made it clear to me. I was horrified. Erased. I apologized, ”he added.
Later he wrote that he could post a photo on the background of the birth of any other child, including his own.
